The State Library of Queensland offers numerous databases to members of Somerset Regional Council Libraries.  To access the databases from any computer, you must be a Queensland resident and:

  • own a State Library e-services card (register for an e-services card allowing 5 days to receive your card); 
    OR
  • be a member of a Queensland public library with a QPL account (register for a QPL account - immediate access after email verification)

Australia/New Zealand Reference Centre

Contains full text of over 240 periodicals, and abstracts/indexing for nearly 400 periodicals focusing on the Australia/New Zealand region. Includes magazines, newspapers, newswires, reference books and company information from Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, United Kingdom, Asia, North America and Europe. Encyclopaedia Britannica Online

A reference site for students, educators and parents, including standard, library, student and junior editions of the Encyclopaedia Britannica.

Health & Wellness Resource Center

Access to articles in over 200 leading medical journals of which some 150 are available full text. Also indexes (full text) a number of medical reference books and pamphlets as well as selected articles from around 1500 general interest titles. See the list of titles indexed.

NewsBank

The NewsBank database provides full text access to newspaper articles from more than 230 Queensland, Australian and international titles. Newspapers from approximately 98 countries are available with a particular focus on Australian, American and English publications.

NoveList

A readers' advisory service featuring information related to reading for all age groups. Includes articles, genre outlines, newsletters and recommendations.

TumbleBooks

A database specially for children. Listen and watch ebooks online, read a review, write a book report and play games.

Somerset Regional Council Libraries catalogue is now available via library or home computer access. Each branch will have a dedicated WebOPAC (Web-based Online Public Access Catalogue) so that you may view items held across the library service. Features of the computer catalogue include:

  • View entire library service collection
  • View whether an item is ‘on-shelf’ (i.e. available for loan)
  • Reserve items that are on loan
  • Reserve items from other locations within the service, to be collected from your preferred branch
  • Suggest a new item for purchase or request an interlibrary loan (i.e. item borrowed from another library service)
  • Search e-resources (i.e. electronic databases that contain information on a vast array of topics)
